Is it normal for a new Paradise Fish to do this?

I just recently got a new 29 gallon tank, and after being cycled with TetraStart, I decided to get a young Firemouth cichlid along with a Paradise fish. (I know for a fact they are compatible. It is a suggestion on Wikipedia and was approved by the owner of my LFS.) Its only been a couple of days, and my firemouth is doing brilliantly. However, the Paradise Fish has gone pale and hides in a decorative log a lot. Is this simply stress or something deeper?
